Board Bits - March
Posted on Mar 2nd, 2015

by Mike Bossio, Treasurer

For this month’s Board Bits, I want to discuss with you the NO PARKING signs that have been installed throughout the community. We have been living with them now for several months. There was some confusion early on about where street parking was allowed and where it wasn’t. We have attempted to clarify allowable parking by posting information and maps on the community website, at the bulletin board near the mail boxes and via word of mouth. It appears that there is still some confusion.
Please remember: THERE IS NO PARKING ON THE HYDRANT SIDE OF THE ROAD ANYWHERE IN THE COMMUNITY. THIS IS REQUIRED TO ENSURE ACCESS TO THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY BY NOVI FIRE DEPARTMENT EQUIPMENT. The other NO PARKING signs on the opposite side of the street are required by the Novi Police Department in order for them to enforce all street signage---parking, speed, stop, etc. Street signage had to conform to municipality standards before the Police Department would enforce them. They do conform. I know these NO PARKING requirements are somewhat inconvenient but they are MANDATORY. We recently had an incident in late February, in which, with snow piled high on both sides of the street, two SUVs were parked on the hydrant side of Lenox Park Drive and one SUV parked directly opposite it, also in a NO PARKING area. Combined with the snow, it was difficult for a car to get through the opening. If there had been a fire or if an EMU vehicle had to get through they would not have been able to. Please abide by the posted road signage.
Restricting road access by parking in NO PARKING areas could easily be a matter of life and death.
Please note that I have confirmed with the Novi Police Department’s Lt. Keith Wuotinen that the Novi police will enforce this signage and tow vehicles as necessary.
If you have any questions regarding these requirements, please feel free to call me directly on my cell phone, 248-444-7609.
